Sell More by Utilizing Email
As more and more e-commerce stores open their virtual doors online, the growing competition makes it becomes harder to reach new customers. Maintaining communication with your customers is vital. E-mail can be a cost-effective way to do so if done correctly. E-mail takes the form of what direct mail was prior to the start of the Internet age of the mid 1990’s without the large printing costs. So how should you integrated e-mail into your e-commerce site? First, the way not to do it is by sending untargeted junk mail or spam. Many e-commerce sites over the years have turned to list companies to purchase addresses whether or not the people on those lists wanted to be contacted. Doing so sent mass amounts of unwanted inbox spam, which in turned soured their opinion of the store. Recently opt-out technology has helped in fighting unwanted email. As e-commerce stores become more intelligent in suggesting products based on past history, e-mail should as well. Sending product specific or niche emails to a certain subset of your list makes your email more likely to be opened as well as acted on. Allowing for customers to email a product page to a friend is a great feature to offer as well. Offer your customers the ability to sign-up for a weekly or monthly newsletter but make sure to keep them topic specific. The more targeted the email, the more likely it will convert for your campaign.
